Enriching Lives

Street Children Rehabilitation

 Program's Uniqueness.

Most Orphans and Vulnerable Children's (OVCs) projects revolve around a mechanical mind set.  The tendency is to come up with problem statements to get the right part of the broken machine and fix it.  In doing so, most OVCs projects hinge on a mechanical way of thinking.  A lot has been achieved through such efforts.  However, more needs done.  Interfelk Street Children Rehabilitation Program adopts a departure from the mainstream mechanical mindset approach in dealing with challenges facing OVCs.  This program adopts agricultural mind set in which OVCs are nurtured to grow into responsible citizens.  OVCs are then integrated into national grid for community development.

It's not enough to provide basic human needs to OVCs.  Interfelk's Street Children Rehabilitation Program can't right the wrongs done to OVCs in the local community.  Instead, this project focuses on reducing chances of repeat performance among parents of OVCs by involving them in the program.  OVCs like any other children need a sense of direction growing up.  They also have to have values, and goals in life.

Inside Out Approach to OVCs Program.

OVCs growth to responsible adulthood must come from within individual OVC.  This project encourages OVCs to ask and answer basic fundamental life's question, “What do I really want out of life?”  This assumption is based on the premise, “When you're green you grow, ripe you rot.”  OVCs are green and have a life to live on purpose.  Leaving OVCs to ripen and rot on the streets, this project encourages them to achieve individual life dream. Instead of soaping OVCs up with adult ripeness, this program nurtures and leads them up the path of success in society.

Making Empowerment Possible

OVCs need socialization, proper integration into society like other children, in an organized legitimate system like in the home. This program undertakes the following:

  1.  Instill core values in OVCs as early as age seven.
  2. Inculcate a reading culture among OVCs.
  3. Inspire OVCs to think and grow towards attaining a dream in life to become role models in society.
  4. Inject a sense of belong in the target group.
  5.  Interweave psychological, physical and spiritual alongside formal education for OVCs in the project.
  6. Introduce non formal course studies into the project.
  7.  Identify and develop talents of OVCs.
